Green:Undergraduate Student Exhibition
March 11 - April 5, 2003.

Concordia University's annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition will be held at the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery from March 11 - April 5, 2003. A reception will be held Tuesday, March 11 at 5:30 p.m. This exhibition has been a tradition at Concordia University for more than twenty years. It affords Faculty of Fine Arts students the opportunity to present their work in a professional public gallery and introduces the work of Concordia's emerging contemporary artists to the general public. The Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery is located at 1400, boul. de Maisonneuve Ouest, inside the J.W. McConnell Library Building of Concordia University.

The exhibition will include artworks in a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, drawing, video, and installation. The works assembled demonstrate a broad spectrum of aesthetic and technical concerns, and reveal current interests in contemporary art.

The exhibition is organized by the VAV Gallery and juried by an undergraduate student committee who is also responsible for the design and printing of the invitations and the preparation of biographical materials that accompany the show. Works by the following artists will be presented: Haig Aivazian, Kiki Athanassiadis, Lorna Bauer, Julie Boivin, Stéphanie Chabot, Cal Crawford, Michael Doerksen, Michael Farnan, Andrew Duncan Finalyson, Nicolas Grenier, Catto Houghton, Zoë Kreye, Vincent Lafrance, Tuulia Law, John Londono, Hoang Nguyen, Mark Andre Pennock, e. Dawit L. Petros, Marie-Claude Plasse, Alana Riley, Ned Schwartz, Alexandre Séguin Dores, Beth Stuart, Jean-Marc Superville Sovak.

The exhibition is presented with the assistance of the Concordia Council on Student Life and the Dean's Office, Faculty of Fine Arts.

Annual Undergraduate Student Show

Emerging Artists Matinée - Thursday, March 20th, 3:00 - 5:00 pm

Montréal CEGEP students are invited to the Ellen Art Gallery to view the exhibition and meet the Concordia student artists who produced the work in this year's Annual Undergraduate Show. Business for Artists Workshop - Saturday, March 29th, 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Animated by Lynn Beavis, this workshop is designed for artists who are interested in presenting their work to galleries. The workshop will deal with identifying prospective galleries, and will offer a hands-on portfolio preparation component. Participants are encouraged to bring visual documentation of their work, such as slides, their CVs and artists statements etc. to the workshop. Maximum of 12 participants. Closing Tea Party Tour - Friday, April 4th, tour from 5:15 - 6:00 pm

Join us after class, or after work for a walk-about tour of Green. Tea will be served following the tour.

Guided Tours - available from March 17th to April 5th

Guided tours of the Undergraduate Show will introduce visitors to the works of 23 emerging artists as well as to overall artistic concerns or thematic issues present in the show. This guided tour will also incorporate several interactive dialogue-based "gallery games" or strategies which allow the visitor to experiment with different ways of approaching and experiencing art. Walk-In Tours - Tuesdays & Thursdays from March 18th - April 3rd, 12:00 - 2:00 pm.

As part of its educational programming the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery offers the public an ongoing program of free bilingual walk-in tours of current exhibitions.

Gallery hours: Monday to Friday 11 am - 7 pm, Saturday 1 pm - 5 pm
